About us

Shasa, meaning ‘Precious Waters’, is a stunning 30 foot catamaran, owned and captained by Jason O’Neal, who has over twenty years of sailing experience.

Licensed to carry 12 passengers, our aim is to provide our guests with a more intimate and personal service, and therefore numbers are limited to eight people.

Based in Holetown, we offer free transportation to and from the cruise terminal and west coast.

Once on board, you’ll be supplied with masks, snorkels and flotation devices, and for those less confident in the water, snorkelling instruction is available from Captain Jason or a member of the Shasa crew.

A range of complimentary drinks will be served throughout your day. Homemade banana bread is served on our snorkel cruises and white wine is offered with lunch on our 5 hour cruises.

Committed to respecting the environment and the marine life of Barbados we aim to make our tours as eco-friendly as possible.

“Sun, sea and a small bit of paradise ”

Jason met us outside Zaccios at 10:00 as scheduled. Don't worry if you arrive early and don't see anyone around. We waited in the shade until the cat arrived.

We clambered on board and found ourselves unexpectedly the only passengers which was a real treat. Jason is a skilled sailor and we made good speed down to Cobblers Bay where we were the first boat on the scene and enjoyed some uninterrupted time with the beautiful green sea turtles until some other boats arrived. The sea was azure and the family of turtles swam under, over and all around us.

We then headed off to the reef for some more snorkelling with shoals of multi coloured fish until it was time to head back.

Jason was a charming guy to chat to and a gracious host, offering plentiful drink and some delicious home-made banana cake. His able side kick, Rory, regaled us with his enthusiastic and amusing patter. They make a good team.

If you are looking for a high quality and intimate snorkelling expedition , we could not recommend this trip more highly.

“Absolutely the BEST for kids, families and smaller groups!!!”

I'll start by saying we have been to Barbados twice a year since 2012. My kids started going at ages two and four, we are very familiar with the island, people, food etc... We have done several of the turtle boat cruises and snorkels in the past and the Shasa Catamaran was by far the BEST we have ever done!! Jason, the owner, and Rory were informative , personable, compassionate, patient and professional!! The first thing that I noticed, as a mother, was their concern for safety of us and especially our kids, they went over the safety procedures and reasons why. The second, was the catamaran itself, was spotless, and there is a private bathroom!! It is clearly well maintained and taken care of, you will know what I mean when you see some of the other boats.... Jason and Rory answered all of our kids questions, and trust me there were a lot..., and the service of soft drinks and adult drinks were plenty-full.... the turtle swim was excellent, we had underwater pictures taken with our girls touching turtles, feeding turtles and swimming along side them. All of these features were included in our trip and pictures can be emailed, let me say this is priceless!!! We then went to the reef swim, our oldest daughter became worried about getting in at the reef, but with much patience and encouraging from Jason and Rory she was able to do it! After that the tour was over and my kids ate an entire banana loaf cake.. (best ever by the way...!!!) With this catamaran you are able to book a three hour tour or more which was the perfect amount of time for kids. It holds minimal amount of people so you will not be overwhelmed by larger groups. This is by far THE BEST CATAMARAN CRUISE you could book!! Well done Jason and Rory, we loved it, we will be back and can't wait to see you again!!

"Safety first"

We chose this company for its good reviews and small group.
We were 2 families, consisting of 4 adults and 5 kids (age range 6-11yo).
Due to the size of our group, we had the boat all to ourselves.
Jason and Rory were on board.
I was impressed with how well they took care of the younger kids (wore life vests). They allowed them to hold on to a buoy so that they can be pulled along. Also, one (staff) would be in the water, and one would remain in the ship, overlooking what may be happening in the water. The waters were getting choppy and it was getting too hard to snorkel, so it had to be shortened. Obviously, this was not their fault, and I would rather be safe than sorry. We still saw plenty of turtles and fish. Jason took some pictures and sent us a link, mostly of the turtles. Maybe also ask Jason to take pictures of yourselves while in the water, with the turtles to make it more personal??
The kids were thrilled with this experience.

“Best Excursion Ever”

My husband and I have been on many excursions over the years and this is by far the best. We were picked up near our ship and driven by a very friendly and knowledgeable cab driver to the catamaran's location. We then boarded and set sail for our swim with the turtles. Wow is all I can say!!! After that we relocated to an awesome snorkel site. A delicious, catered lunch followed and then we sailed back to meet our cab driver. The hosts made you feel as if you were part of their family and succeeded in making this a very, relaxed personalized trip. It was well worth every penny and then some.

“Wonderful sail!”

This was the best excursion I have ever taken. We sailed to a spot where we snorkeled with lots of turtles. Next we sailed to a reef where we snorkeled again. I must say this was the best snorkeling ever. We saw lots of fish at this spot. This is a small group excursion; there were only 2 other people and my husband and I as guests. I would definitely recommend this excursion for anyone! I can't say enough good things about it...and it was beautiful.

“Excellent, as usual”

This was our third time stopping in Barbados on the Celebrity Summit and our third time booking the half-day snorkel tour with Shasa. We found them on Cruise Critic and have never regretted it. They are consistently timely and pleasant. The Shasa is well maintained and both Jason and Alex are wonderful hosts. They know exactly where to take us to suit our group's ability and interest. This was one of the highlights of our cruise and the kids especially enjoyed it. Jason provided excellent snorkeling instruction to the two kids in our group who were new to snorkeling. In fact, one of them who was extremely nervous about snorkeling beforehand jumped right in and had a blast.

Along the way, Alex offered beverages to suit everyone ranging from bottled water to soda, beer and rum punch. The homemade banana bread as we sailed back in after our second stop was enjoyed by all and helped keep the children from hunger meltdowns.

If you are in Barbados, you really must spend some time with Jason and Alex on the Shasa!

“Awesome Time”

We had an awesome sailing and snorkeling day with the sea turtles and reef exploring with Alex and Jason! One of the best snorkeling days on our 14 day cruise in the southern Caribbean! We were taken to a secluded part of the island away from all the other snorkeling boats so we could experience some private time with the turtles and enjoy the beautiful reefs without 80 other people bombarding you at the same time! The day was beautiful sailing on the delightful Shasa catamaran and Alex and Jason were delightful hosts! The lunch was just wonderful prepared by their very talented caterer! Couldn't stop eating it! This is a trip one mustn't pass up if you stop in Barbados! Will definitely book again! Thank you again Alex and Jason for such a wonderful day!

“Enjoyable Three Hours”

Four of us enjoyed a wonderful morning with Alex and Jason who were very pleasant hosts. They ensured we were comfortable at all times. We all got to swim up close with the turtles and the tropical fish. There were 8 guests on the boat (two families) which made the trip very personal. It was a great way to experience sailing and snorkelling in Barbados.
